Congratulations! I'm assuming you've finished a manuscript, and I recognize your dedication and passion. I appreciate that you're seeking editorial services for your story and writing, and I'd love to connect with you. Let me give you some insight into who I am.
I'm a mother of two girls, a wife of one husband, and lover of popcorn, potatoes, and, obviously, Mary Poppins. My favorite stories are found in rich characters with deep journeys, like Pi in Life of Pi, Stanley Yelnats in Holes, Kubo with his two strings, Furiosa in Mad Max Fury Road, even Wilbur in Charlotte's Web.
I enjoy movies, but even more, I love a moving score that wraps its film in glowing aura to reach our souls. I adore anything by John Williams, Rachel Portman, Michael Giacchino, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, and James Horner. Along with the movies of the stories mentioned in the previous paragraph, standout score+movie combos of Pride and Prejudice (Dario Marinelli), Hook (Williams), Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain (Yann Tiersen), The Santa Clause (Michael Convertino), Finding Neverland (Kaczmarek), Chocolat (Portman), and the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series represent my favorites. And while I love all kinds of classical music in general, it is my opinion that Clair de Lune by Debussy is the perfect song.
And my editing experience? Why yes, on to the more relevant stats now. I went to Utah Valley University and had a great experience studying creative writing and editing. I was able to participate in both writing and publishing with the university's publications. I submitted prose and poetry that got accepted into the school magazine and its literary journal, Touchstones, and I was also on the editing staff, the poetry editor, and editor-in-chief of that journal on separate occasions. I graduated in 2013 with a BA in Creative Writing with Technical Certification, UVU's form of an editing minor at the time.

Made me chuckle that the sample pic was plastered with "proof" so I took a screenshot as evidence of my graduation. |
I was all intent on focusing on creative writing during college, but when I took my first editing class, my world formed. My brain found its home. I sought out every editing opportunity. I like to say that, while my brain has always struggled with the language of mathematics (woof, math), it thrives on the mathematics of language. The rules and structure of language and how the bending or adhering to these mechanics creates the images and feelings we seek and crave and that help us heal and thrive--this is my passion.
Before graduating, I worked in editing university policy and interned in publishing with Deseret Book. After graduation my career involved copywriting, proofreading, and editing in various settings. In 2018 I was let go from my proofreading job due to corporate downsizing, and a friend of mine living in New York connected me with a lead editor at Penguin Random House. I took their test and started contract work with them in 2019, and I've completed more than 100 projects with them as of 2024. I've been helping my indie author friends polish their manuscripts for well over a decade, and I love the growth and expansion every story entrusted to me offers my mind and my skills.

PRH titles I helped with in 2024 |
In genre general, I avoid erotica and gore/horror, but I can get through it all. With indie friends, I've polished rom-com, contemporary romance, speculative, sci-fi, memoir, mystery, cyberpunk, and so on. With Penguin Random House imprints, I've run the gamut as well: cookbooks, parenting books, self-improvement, interior design/improvement/DIY, fantasy, sci-fi, memoir, thriller, historical, romance, and more. I love what I read, and I love when I can help it shine even brighter.
So, welcome. Look around. See if you think I could be a good match for polishing your story, and let's connect and make your manuscript solid, so that when you press "submit," you know it's your best offering to the world.
