Polishing Plan

So how does the typical polishing experience go?

  1. You read the Polishing Rates page and find out what stage your manuscript (MS) is in and what polishing service you'd like it to get.
  2. You fill out the Polishing Poppins Query form on the Sign Me Up page, and we start a discussion about your project's needs.
  3. You either send me a sample for a test-drive polish, or you send me the complete MS.
  4. I polish, you wait (and we email each other with questions whenever we feel the need). This stage of the polishing experience contains the potential to have the most customization per project. We could decide any number of things as we go.
  5. You pay me if you haven't already, and your MS is returned filled with comments and edits.
  6. We decide if that's the end of things or if I do the second pass of your MS once you make revisions stemming from my suggestions.
Now, how much time should you plan for your plan? Authors I've worked with have allotted about 1 week per every 20,000 words of their MS for my part in the process. The rest is up to you after that, and the stage of your MS and the grit in your bones to revise determines how much time will elapse from then. But giving yourself at least three months to revise and brainstorm and rewrite, in addition to my time for editing, would be a good move.
